Mr. Øyvind Hovland has been one of the country’s most acknowledged tax lawyers for years. Although he is departing the partnership due to age, he will still be instrumental in building EY Tax Law further.

Expert in domestic and international taxation and corporate law, especially in relation to domestic and cross-border transactions; financing, and business restructurings of corporate groups, mergers & acquisitions of businesses in Norway and outside Norway; EU tax law and tax treaty law; tax due diligence projects.

• Tax audit services regarding a complex cross-border hybrid entity arrangement involving many complex Norwegian and EEA law tax issues; pending tax audit; fee NOK 1.2 mill. Tax assistance in connection with the carveout of green business from a major Norwegian multi-national into a new group structure to be separately listed; many complex tax issues; fees NOK 2 mill.
• Tax case regarding capital gains tax assessed in connection with migrating activities from Norway to Ireland in 2013-2014. Significant amounts involved and questions of exit tax in an EEA law context. EY represents the taxpayer in court case initiated in June 2020 and litigated in April 2021 at Oslo county court. Value matter was NOK 918 million in taxes payable.
