Vu Hoang Tung and Mukherjee Supratik recently joined the firm as a tax senior manager.
Jack Sheehan, Lan Hua and Lieu Phan lead tax practice at DFDL. The team combines both specialised lawyers and accountants to provide tax services across the local market. The practice includes tax advisory, tax compliance and customs advisory. It advises and helps clients on various tax efficiency methods by taking advantage of local and international knowledge and experience. It covers the identification of potential risk, the determination of optimal tax holding structures, and the establishment of robust defences during tax audits and disputes.
In 2018, the team helped a client on a general corporate tax issue. It advised on the structuring of transactions for an airline in Vietnam. Jack Sheehan and Lieu Phan are also assisting Navigos Group with a tax controversy matter. They represent the client in a court case against the local tax department for its tax reassessments imposed on the client.
The firm hired Lan Hua as a tax director in 2018.
Warrick Cleine leads the tax department at KPMG. It combines the deals, tax and legal (DTL) business to enhance its tax services. Currently, it has more than 450 practitioners across 10 different service lines. It includes corporate tax, integrated international tax, global mobility services, legal services, diligence, forensic, M&A advisory, strategy, valuations and enterprise. It also has strength in its trade and customs practice, offering customs regulation advice, supply chain strategy and M&A advisory for companies regarding the local and international business environment. In 2018, it helped major clients win in infrastructure, transport/logistics, consumer markets and real estate/construction matters.
In 2018, Warrick Cleine, Ta Hong Thai and Phan Xuan Qui helped a client dealing with both general corporate tax and tax controversy matters. They assisted the client with capital gains tax filing, tax audit assistance and a tax treaty application. Nguyen Thu Huong and Hoang Thuy Duong also helped a client solving customs issue, providing customs valuation adjustment and the relevant adjustment to import tax and corporate income tax.
