During the research period the team provided tax assistance to
M Shop Comercial. The case was a unique tax exemption case in the sense that the client imports and resells Lego Products, some of which are the Lego Education line of products.
However, these products have a tax classification of toys in Brazil, not of books or other educational products, having normally taxes as ICMS, IPI, PIS and COFINS in its price, both for import and resale. A lawsuit was filed claiming that the product should have tax immunity as ICMS and IPI and zero rate of contributions to PIS/COFINS.
