Ruby Rose Yusi and Eric Recalde lead the tax practice at Angara Abello Concepcion Regala & Cruz Law Offices. The team provides services covering tax litigation, tax assessment and advisory. It has a wide range of clients including multinational corporations, financial institutions and high net-worth individuals. In addition, the tax group assists clients with customs issues. 

The team provides assistance to clients with tax assessment services related to the registration of their retirement plans. It is also helping a metropolitan bank and trust company regarding a tax controversy issue. 

It hired eight associates in the last two years, while Alia Alvarez, Adrian Joseph Tan, Diane Jane Dolot and Jan Carlo Ayson left the firm in 2018.

Fulvio Dawilan and Irwin Nidea are two key practitioners at Du-Baladad & Associates. The firm is part of the global WTS network. The team helped a client on a tax controversy matter. In this case, it provided assistance on the problems and solutions around identification, benchmarking analysis, a new tax system design and tax policy recommendations. 

Jomel Manaig and Kara Louisse Eramis joined the firm as a senior associate during the research period. Ronel Andrew Morano joined the firm as a junior associate. In addition, the firm also hired Chris Lyn Choi, Reyson Camungao and Luz Celestino as a junior tax accountant. Two senior associates and one junior associate left in the same perioid. 

Navarro Amper & Co

Walter Abela leads tax practice at Navarro Amper & Co. It is part of the Deloitte network. The team is comprised of approximately 160 professionals, including six partners and four directors. Other key practitioners include Richard Lapres, Alvin Noel Saldaña and Senen Quizon. Its practice covers indirect tax, tax compliance, global employer services and M&A. As for indirect tax practice, the team has a strong capability in a wide range of areas such as VAT, customs duties and excise duties services. In addition, the team takes advantage of the innovative tool Deloitte tax@hand, which integrates with social media and data analytics, delivering news, tax information and contacts accessible on all devices. 

Quisumbing Torres

Dennis Dimagiba and Ronald Bernas are two key tax practitioners at Quisumbing Torres, the Philippines member of the Baker McKenzie network. Its tax practice includes tax disputes, tax planning, customs and wealth management. It assists clients in a wide range of sectors including financial institutions, healthcare, TMT, consumer goods and retail. In addition, partners help clients revisit their business structures and operations in relation to the rise of the digital economy. 

Dennis Dimagiba and Kristine Anne Mercado are helping a client in connection with the post-acquisition integration of an acquired entity. Ronald Bernas and Alexander Ner also advised a client on its sale of shares in a Philippines subsidiary.

RG Manabat & Co

RG Manabat & Co is a member of KPMG International. Key practitioners include Carmela Peralta, Emmanuel Bonoan, Leandro Ben Robediso, Mary Karen Quizon-Sakkam and Andrew James Gerard Ruiz. Its practice covers transactional tax, corporate tax structuring and compliance, trade and customs reviews. It is developing technology solutions such as data and analytic services in order to meet clients’ needs. It has also strengthened its relationships with the Philippine tax authorities to provide a better service to clients. 

The firm expanded by hiring 21 supervisors in recent years. In the same time, two managers, 29 supervisors and four assistant mangers left the firm.

Managing partner Lily Gruba leads the tax practice at Zambrano Gruba Caganda & Advinncula. It provides high-grade contentious and non-contentious tax services to clients, covering energy corporation AES, Fortune 500 companies, Philippine Airlines, the Philippine National Bank and Asia United Bank Corporation. In 2017, the firm allied with WongPartnership. It has become a member of the WGP regional law network that includes firms from the Middle East, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines and Singapore. 

The team handled several tax controversy matters in 2018. One significant case saw it representing a client on a tax deficiency assessment. It included various tax issues such as income tax, VAT and withholding tax on compensation of more than $180 million.
