Baker Tilly Monteiro Heng Tax Services

Baker Tilly Monteiro Heng Tax Services provides a wide range of tax services, including corporate and personal income tax, compliance and advisory, transfer pricing, M&A support, tax due diligence, indirect taxes, tax controversy and capital allowance maximisation. The department has built a team focusing on tax audits and investigation tax, which is led by a director and senior manager who have more than 30 years of tax experience. In addition, the firm also has a team in charge of advisory, due diligence and M&A. An executive director leads the team and a senior manager assists it. The firm is supported by Baker Tilly international and has allied with Ferrier Hodgson.

The tax team helped a client on both transactional tax and indirect tax issues. They advised the clients on the potential tax implications, both from a direct and indirect tax standpoint. The firm also advised on stamp duty implications because of a land swap/transfer.

In 2017, the firm hired Yohan Francis as a transfer pricing director. 


Yee Wing Peng leads the tax practice at Deloitte. The tax team includes 18 tax partners and more than 465 professionals. It provides a wide range of tax services, including international tax, M&A, audit and investigations, R&D and government incentivea, business process outsourcing, private wealth, global employer services, transfer pricing and indirect taxes and customs. The firm has a GST team that focuses on GST and customs dispute resolutions, GST audits and planning. In addition, it has built a Chinese and a Korean services group, led by Tham Lih Jiun and Chee Pei Pei. It is a team of 14 professionals that includes local professionals, five mainland Chinese nationals and four Korean nationals. The firm uses digital tools to deliver tax services in various areas, involving transfer pricing, indirect tax, global employer services and corporate income tax.

In 2017 and 2018, the firm has expanded by hiring eight tax managers, one senior manager, two tax senior managers, seven tax directors, three associate directors, one tax partner, two tax associate directors, four executive directors and two directors.


EY offers tax services including business tax, indirect tax, international tax, transactional tax, and the tax-related issues associated with human capital. The tax policy and controversy group is comprised of 56 professionals covering tax policy and controversy, transfer pricing, indirect tax, financial services and people advisory services. The professionals come from various backgrounds such as accounting, tax, law and business economics. The controversy team helps clients in a wide range of different industries.

In the past year, the team helped a client on an indirect tax review. In this case, EY professionals coordinated the review for the domestic market. The tax group managed the project, including the consolidation of reporting and facilitating a multi-jurisdiction conference call to deliver the report.

Shearn Delamore & Co

Goh Ka Im leads the tax practice at Shearn Delamore & Co. Another key professional is Anand Raj. The tax team is well-known for its tax litigation, audit and investigation practices. It continues to service traditional clients including ExxonMobil, Shell, Atwood, BP-Castrol, Measat and National Instruments. In addition, the tax group also advises clients in the electronics, telecommunications, consumer products and transport industries.

In 2017, Raj and Irene Yong helped a Saudi Arabian oil company on a transactional tax matter. The firm advised the client on all aspects of tax law advisory and structuring, including cross-border transaction, advisory, structuring, negotiations and strategy involving a wide range of direct and indirect tax practices. Raj and Boo Sha-Lyn also advised a Malaysian law firm on a tax controversy matter. They represented the client in challenging the Revenue’s interpretation of the deductibility of professional indemnity insurance premiums.

Wong & Partners

Adeline Wong leads the tax practice at Wong & Partners. It is a member firm of Baker McKenzie and has the capability to offer tax services in 47 countries around the world. The firm provides services covering local and international tax planning, global structuring, M&A, tax controversies including tax audits, raids, investigations and litigation, indirect tax, trade and diagnostics, transfer pricing including benchmarking, valuation, audit and defence, supply chain, employment-related taxes and private banking.

The tax team is helping a client with an indirect tax matter. In this case, the firm reviews the non-trade barriers imposed under the relevant Indonesian import regulation. It also analyses the applicability of non-trade barriers on goods exported by the client from Malaysia to Indonesia. In the past year, the firm advised GEOWSSB on a tax controversy and indirect tax matter. The firm represented the client in its appeal at the GST Tribunal.
