The tax team at KPMG in Kuwait is led by partners Zubair Patel and Fahim Bashir, both of whom have a focus on corporate and indirect taxation. They are supported by a team that includes three senior managers. It is able to offer clients representation on the full range of tax matters, including assisting Kuwaiti financial Institutions with their common reporting standard compliance in line with the local Kuwait law introduced as per the recent OECD initiative.
Recent work highlights for the firm include acting for a foreign financial institution in connection with a claimed exemption on Kuwait-sourced interest income, based on the provisions of the tax treaty that exists between Kuwait the client's jurisdiction. It also assisted an Italian client in relation to a dispute over royalties with the Kuwait Tax Authority, which was settled in a out-of-court settlement.
