Tax

Schneider Pugliese Sztokfisz Figueiredo & Carvalho Advogados specialises in tax controversy, indirect tax, and tax planning. The boutique firm spans two offices in São Paulo and Brasília and is comprised of five partners. Its clients represent multiple sectors such as financial services, consumer goods, automobiles, pharmaceuticals, agribusiness, and cosmetics. Partner Henrique Philip Schneider is a key individual at the firm.

During the research period, the firm advised Zurich Santander in the writ of mandamus aiming at the recognition of the Company’s right not to include the brokerage fee passed on by the insurance company to its brokers in the tax base of the Social Contributions on Gross Revenue, on the grounds that said fee does not constitute part of the insurance company’s gross revenue, but a mere transfer to its brokers. In December 2022, the Federal court granted the writ of mandamus. This decision is not yet unappealable. The importance of the case relates not only to the matter itself, but also to its scope (since it is applicable to every insurance company in the country) and to the financial impacts.

Partner Flavio Eduardo Carvalho departed to Manera. However, the team welcomed three new senior associates: Breno do Carmo Vieira, Thales Belchior Paixão, and Andrea Marco Antonio.
