TGS Baltic formed in April 2016, when Tark Grunte Sutkiene in Latvia and Lithuania (listed in the previous edition of World Tax) joined forces with Varul Estonia.
The tax team comprises five partners and 11 other professionals across the Baltic States, with expertise in areas of indirect, corporate, disputes, compliance and accounting.
Partner Helmut Pikmets (Estonia), Andra Rubene (Latvia) and Robertas Degesys (Lithuania) are key contacts in each region.
The practice has a multidisciplinary approach, combining the expertise of tax, corporate and other legal specialists. It provides tax advisory services in relation to M&A, private equity and other financial transactions. TGS Baltic advises on various tax structuring issues, from business set-up advice to structuring a company.
Pikmets and the Estonian corporate team (managing partner Martin Tamme, associate partner Sander Kärson, senior associate Sergei Jegorov and associate Nikita Divissenko) assisted an agricultural land owner in September 2016. The client, Järve Tootjad, was advised on the sale of arable land and assets worth €4.7 million ($5.6 million).
One client said the firm had "competence in other areas besides taxation, especially in finance sector. In our relationship TGS proved to be a reliable, competent partner, offering good quality and good value for money."
