Paul Doralt is head of tax at Dorda Brugger Jordis and leads a team of five other fee earners. The practice focuses on cross-border work. As a standalone practice, the group generates about 90% of its own work.
The group advises a lot of Brazilian clients because of the favourable tax treaty Austria has with Brazil. Doralt and Tibor Varga advised the Odebrecht group on their leasing structure, which involves an Austrian special purpose vehicle (SPV) holding Brazilian drillships that are then leased out to Petrobras. Other Brazilian clients include JBS, Banco Safra, and Banco do Brasil.
The group has a number of clients in the energy sector, especially those with operations in Russia and Kazakhstan. Clients include Lukoil, Gazprom and AES, a US energy group. Martina Znidaric is advising GDF Suez on the reorganisation of its gas pipeline joint venture with OMV.
