Gleiss Lutz has maintained its standing within the German tax market. The market expressed concern that the departure of Stefanie Beinert to Hengeler Müller might have an impact on the quality of the team but the group has been involved in a number of important transactions and restructurings this year.
The number of equity partners has remained constant since Beinert's departure as Stefan Mayer has promoted to the ranks. Hendrik Marchal and Nathalie Schweda have also been appointed to salaried partner this year. The group also opened a new office in Hamburg last October; perhaps the best indicator of the practice's ambition.
The group is especially strong in transactional assistance and tax planning. Last year Mayer and Alexander Werder advised Infineon on the sale of its wireless solution businessIntel. The group is also advising a large automotive company on how to restructure its business after the acquisition of a number of companies over the last few years.
Michael Marquardt also advises a number of public sector companies. This year he worked on the restructuring of the business entities of the City of Hanau. Other clients the group has worked for include PrimaCom Group, the City of Stuttgart, Bosch and Mithril.
