SyCip Gorres Velayo & Co is a part of Ernst & Young and is led by Emmanuel Alcantara. The firm is known for its full range of tax services including compliance, advisory, andplanning to do with cross-border transactions, corporate restructuring of M&A and consolidations, financial products and arrangements, transfer pricing estate planning. The firm also does advocacy work before the Bureau of Internal Revenue, the Bureau of Customs, the Department of Finance and other agencies.
The firm was one of the first providers of transfer pricing services in the Philippines in 2001. Partner Romulo Danao has spearheaded the department since its inception, using his knowledge and expertise to help the group grow substantially. The team has grown from eight to 14 professionals in the last 12 months. Reynante Marcelo is the other transfer pricing partner.
The team's services include transfer pricing advisory, audits, benchmarking studies, preparing documentation, controversy assistance, and transfer pricing policy review and implementation.
The firm is assisting a multinational company on a large multi-million tax deficiency assessment based on alleged transfer pricing planning. The BIR has agreed with the team's argument and is set to drop the deficiency assessment.
Clients are aware of the importance of adopting arm's-length prices policies for their related party transactions, and having sufficient documentation in place to justify their policies.
