Piergiorgio Valente heads a team of 39 fee earnersat Valente Associati Studio Legale Tributario. The practice represents mainly large industrial companies in cross-border issues. Most of their work consists of tax planning and transfer pricing.
This year Salvadore Mattia, Claudio Melillo and Angelo Ghirimoldi represented a major multinational client in a transfer pricing dispute after the Italian tax authorities challenged their documentation. The client avoided any penalties by upholding the original methodology and benchmarking analysis.
Valente and partner Caterina Algana also worked on the structuring of an international trade mark acquisition for a holding company and its five subsidiaries. This transaction was going on while there was a possibility of the seller going bankrupt. The tax practice drew on the examples of Mariella Burani and Dolce & Gabbana to minimise this risk in the structure.
Other clients include Yamaha Motor Italia, Lotto Sport Italia, Faber and the San Marino government.
