Walkers Global is a new entrant to the market, having only been set up in March 2011. The team is led by Anthony Smyth, who comes in for praise from clients.
"I deal mostly with Anthony Smyth who I value highly," said one. "There are also a number of capable people within the team who support the work," said another, who added: "Their ability to understand not only the legal aspects but also the various relationships between the different international parties has been invaluable in getting things done."
Aviation is a big part of the market in Ireland and a big part of Walkers' work. One client praised Walkers for moving away from the air of "complacency" that they had perceived in this sector.
"Walkers are one of the newer entrants and their team has done a good job in breaking the mould as far as I am concerned. I had become weary of lawyers who told us what we couldn't do rather than find solutions," said a client.
A highlight for the firm this year was its advising of Deutsche Bank's Irish branch on the tax issues inherent in a £210 million commercial real-estate loan-backed securitisation, a deal which closed in February 2012.
