Alfery & Partner was formed out of the dissolution of Haarmann Hemmelrath a few years back. The team is headed by Jana Alfery and counts about 20 tax professionals among its ranks. It is part of the WTS Alliance.
The practice focuses mostly on VAT and corporate tax. "We are a boutique and we want to remain as one" said a partner. Revenue grew by abou 30% last year.
This year the group advised WSF Delta on the acquisition of a company owning real estate for the purpose of constructing a hotel complex in Prague. This raised significant issues about the deductibility of interest and involved complex structuring. The group also advised E.ON Sales and Trading on the VAT aspects of the trading of a foreign business with electricity in the Czech Republic.
The group has only one major Czech client and typically represents companies owned by foreign parent companies. The group has a particular focus on German-speaking clients, which count for about 80% of their clients. Clients they have worked for include Kastner & Öhler, AEG Components and Raiffeisen Leasing.
