Baker Tilly Klitou has a significant tax team in Cyprus, with 10 partners, led by Therapon Mafkas in Nicosia, and 150 fee earners. The firm also has offices in Larnaca and Limassol, where Stelios Gregoriou heads the practice.
The firm works across all areas, but is particularly active in both corporate and indirect matters. Mafkas advised a Ukrainian company about transferring intangible assets to Cyprus and another client who wanted to use Cyprus to import goods from Russia to other jurisdictions in Europe. .
Mafkas also advised a client who had transferred land in his name to a limited liability company, but the tax office didn't accept the value of the land as per the agreement. He also represented a company in a case concerning the restriction by the income tax office of the scope of the taxable and non-taxable expenses. These two cases both settled successfully in February 2012.
