True to the Baker Tilly International network's strengths the group focuses on small and medium enterprises, typically those with an international presence. Most of their work they do is cross-border and this is typically inbound where companies seek to establish production centres in the Czech Republic. A lot of their advice involves structuring to avoid VAT leakage, which forms a larger component of their work than corporate tax matters.

Last year Ráblová, David James and Andrea Majercíková advised a client in the hotel industry on the acquisition of a real estate company. The practice carried out all of the due diligence for the transaction and advised the client on the structuring of the business for tax optimisation.

Ráblová, James, Majercíková and Lucie Wimetalová also carried out the tax due diligence for a manufacturer that acquired one of its competitors. This involved issues concerning the acquired company's assets used for supplementary business activities. The three advisers managed to structure the deal in such a way that it does not pose a risk for the future.

The group provides tax structuring advice for a number of clients with international offices. Here, the group is able to leverage off Baker Tilly International's network and has particular experience advising clients on structuring their operations through Cyprus because of Romania's favourable double tax treaty with that jurisdiction.

The group also advises clients on drafting complaints against official decisions and preparing for litigation.
