Chiomenti Studio Legale's tax practice is led by Paolo Giacometti. He heads a large team of 20.
The tax practice is very strong, evidenced by the fact that about half of its work is self-generated. The team provides an impressive range of tax services, centred around three main areas: international tax, which includes transfer pricing and general corporate tax advisory, taxation of financial products and tax litigation, which hasincreased substantially this year. Marco di Siena was appointed partner this year and is regularly singled out by his peers as a leading tax disputes practitioner. Massimo Antonini is also mentioned for both corporate tax and M&A work.
This year Giuseppe Andrea Giannantonio advised the Government of Singapore Investment Corporation on the acquisition of units in the Italian real estate fund Cloe. This was the first time the sovereign fund had invested in Italy. The client required a binding ruling from the tax authorities to benefit from the exemptions regarding the payment of proceeds.
Giacometti and Antonini also advised Bulgari on the tax aspects of the €1.9 billion sale of the majority of the shares in the company to LVMH in one of the largest deals in Italy so far this year, valued at. Giacometti also advised the Italian consulting company, Value Partners on the sale of its IT services division to NTT Data Corporation, the network services unit of Japan's largest phone company. This involved intense structuring including a pre-sale spin-off of certain operations.
Other clients they have worked for this year include Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Prelios, Mediaset, Italmobiliare and Banca Intesa Sanpaolo.
