Clients say they choose to work with Miller & Chevalier because of the successful outcomes and timely and practical advice it delivers. "[They offer] a combination of great technical expertise, advice regarding risk, and practical solutions," said one client. George Hani, vice Chairman of the tax department, is also well-respected and trusted by taxpayers. The firm's Washington DC tax practice has great breadth and depth of technical expertise and experience, spanning business transactions and reorganisations, international tax, tax accounting, financial products, transfer pricing, criminal tax, excise tax and withholding issues. It also has in-depth know-how and expertise in a wide range of industries, including energy, auto manufacturing, telecommunications and utilities, financial services and insurance.
The practice, led by Patricia Sweeney, chairperson of Miller & Chevalier's tax department, secured the addition of a new, high-profile member. Kevin Downing joined the firm's criminal tax practice in June 2012 after leaving the Department of Justice where he served as federal prosecutor and most recently as senior litigation counsel. In February 2012, the firm also hired James Warren and Alexander Zakupowsky as members. Both were partners of the tax, energy and utilities practices at Winston & Strawn. Miller & Chevalier lost Robert Kirschenbaum, a transfer pricing specialist, to Bingham McCutchen in August 2011 and Dwight Mersereau to McDermott Will & Emery in January 2012.
