Fenech & Fenech's tax department advises on group restructuring, domestic and international taxation, tax efficient cross-border structures with a focus on inbound investment, trusts and foundations. The tax team is led by Rosanne Bonnici who has over 16 years experience practising tax law. Bonnici and Ramona Azzopardi assisted a large multinational group in relation to a structure involving the $50 million acquisition and operation of aircraft in the Spanish tourism sector. This deal involved considerable tax planning in relation to the use of trusts in the structure while preserving the benefits of the tax refund regime. The firm assisted a large multinational investment group on the structuring of a deal leading to the acquisition of a stake in a listed company. This deal benefited from the 2007 tax amendments extending the local holding regime to partnerships. The firm advised a large privately owned real estate group on the $60 million acquisition of various commercial properties outside the EU. This deal involved the use of a new Maltese vehicle for international tax planning purposes.
