Lakatos, Köves & Partners was the Hungarian office of Clifford Chance for 15 years until it split two years ago. Despite being not being part of an international firm now, the practice focuses mostly on multi-jurisdictional matters and maintains a good cross-border client base; this is in part due to the best friends relationship the firm maintains with Clifford Chance.
The tax practice is headed up by István Keményfy and comprises eight practitioners. The practice focuses on a broad range of business tax services with transactional work and tax planning making up a sizeable amount.
Work this year includes advising SaGa Food, the Hungarian branch of Bernard Matthews, the UK poultry producer, on a tax-effective remuneration structure, and advising Antenna Hungária on the basis for challenging the new crisis tax imposed on the telecommunications sector in Hungary. Other clients include Cargill, AMTEK, GLL and Avestus Capital Partners.
