The Guyer & Regules's tax team is made up of accountants and lawyers that provide transactional tax advice. The tax practice is also active in transfer pricing and tax litigation. Juan Manuel Albacete heads the tax group and is recommended for his work in capital markets. He is an assistant professor in tax law at the University of Uruguay law school. In 2011 the team assisted clients Citibank and Barclays on tax matters related to the Uruguayan government's $500 million issuance of sovereign debt. Albacete and partner Nicolás Piaggio, who is a leader in M&A, advised paper pulp company Montes del Plata on the tax planning for the construction of a $1.5 billion pulp mill on the eastern bank of the Rio de la Plata.
