Hernández & Cía is a "local powerhouse in legal affairs," says a top competitor. The firm is the permanent local counsel to high profile clients such as Procter & Gamble, Kodak Americas, Compass Group and Prima AFP. Senior partner, founder and head of the tax practice, Luis Hernández Berenguel is referred to among his peers as one of the most "confident and highly respected tax partners in Peru". Over the past two years the tax team has become a serious contender for advising on M&A, capital markets, banking and finance, and natural resources transactions. The firm is handling several appeals in the Colombian Tax Court for cases related to customs tax. Partner Leonardo Lopez specialises in customs law and is also a customs agent. Partner Milagros Bustillos is a tax law specialist and former assistant professor at the law school of the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru. The firm added two associates in November 2010.
