The firm's strong presence in tax litigation in the past year has catapulted the firm into a well deserved tier one ranking. The group of four partners and six associates all handle work on many different types of tax issues, for both pure tax clients and in support of the other practice groups at the firm. This year the firm provided a tax solution to a problem faced by all insurance companies due to discriminatory tax treatment regarding exchange rate differences generated by investments made to back up technical reserves. The group also represented Union de Cervecerias Backus y Johnston, a beverage company, in an important appeal procedure before the tax court regarding an assessment on the income tax of the company.
